Contemporary Euphonium to know and master the writing for brass instruments augmentations and preparations.
An intensive weekend with Marina Boselli to deepen the technical and mechanical knowledge of brass instruments, learn the specific semiography and the different choices of the authors, experience the instrument live, interacting with the performer.
Francesco Manenti, will present the research work, carried out with Marina Boselli, on the development of preparations, augmentations and extensions for Euphonium, with particular attention to the impact on instrumental practice.
Goals of the masterclass
- To know and learn the extended techniques of brass instruments in the contemporary repertoire.
- Introduction to the preparation and augmentations of the instrument.
- Identification of effective and unambiguous writing for the techniques under analysis.
- Reference to excerpts from the repertoire to see the possibilities of graphic translation.
Participants
The masterclass is aimed at composers and performers who wish to explore and deepen the technical and expressive possibilities of brass instruments in contemporary music. The writing, starting from innovative and significant repertoire pieces, of the different instruments from the early 20th century to the present day will also be analyses. The masterclass is also open to listeners. Salotto in Prova will organise the final concert of those enrolled in the masterclass, on a date to bedefined, which will include the performance of pieces by the composers who took part in the course.
MARINA BOSELLI
Born in Como in 1998, she began studying the euphonium at the age of 12. She obtained her Level I and II Academic Diploma in Euphonium at the Conservatorio 'Guido Cantelli' in Novara, in the class of Maestro Corrado Colliard, both with a score of 110/110 cum laude. She then attended the Biennium Academic Course in Ensemble Music at the Conservatorio 'Giuseppe Verdi' in Milan, in the class of Maestro Monica Catarrosi, graduating with 110/110 cum laude and Honourable Mention. She is the winner of numerous national and international competitions, including the VTEC Solo Euphonium Competition of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association (USA). Active in Italy and abroad as a soloist, she performs in leading seasons, including the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, the Festival ArteScienza in Rome, the Festival AltriSuoni in Genoa, the Camera con Musica concerts of the Teatro Sociale in Como, the Rondò season of Divertimento Ensemble.
She also collaborates as a guest musician at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, for the realisation of new repertoires for Euphonium and electronics. He also works as a chamber musician with the Canaja Brass Quintet, a brass ensemble founded in 2017. Since 2018, he has been first euphonium soloist of the Civica Filarmonica di Lugano, with whom he has performed in Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Austria. He has given Euphonium masterclasses for the North Texas Low Brass Camp, the OctubaFest of the University of Rio, in Italian conservatories and for several Italian music associations and band academies.
Since February 2023 he has been teaching Euphonium at the Conservatorio "Alfredo Casella" in L'Aquila and since 2024 he has been a contract professor at the Conservatorio "Guido Cantelli" in Novara and the Conservatorio "Giuseppe Verdi" in Milan.
