About
The workshop introduces students to the world of DIY basic analog electronics applied to sound and audiovisual performance. The first part of the lab features a brief historical and methodological introduction, a technical explanation of how the Lumanoise range operates, its different types, and features, followed by a short demonstration.
Participants will then assemble the mini audio synthesizer, receiving step-by-step guidance to build their own instrument using the electronic components provided in the assembly kit.
The second part of the lab focuses on experimenting with the self-built instruments. Instructors will guide participants through audiovisual composition, instrument operation, and the use of various light sources.
Program
Day 1
- Presentation of the workshop, Otolab, and projects utilizing Lumanoise.
- Overview of different Lumanoise models and technical features with a live demo.
- Guided assembly of the devices by the students.
Day 2
- Inspection, fine-tuning, and troubleshooting of the assembled devices.
- Guided experimentation with lights and Lumanoise by the participants.
Luca Pertegato (a.k.a. Xo00)
Originally trained as a graphic designer, illustrator, painter, and engraver, he has always been passionate about electronic sounds and the synesthetic relationships between sound, light, and image. In 2001, he co-founded the Otolab artistic collective, initiating a path of research and experimentation in live performance and audiovisual installation. He has contributed to numerous projects including Quartetto.swf (First Prize winner at Netmage 2002), Ethereal Sound System (2003), Duetto.swf (2003), Stare_Mesto (2003), Polystatic (2004), Hemline (2004), Nuke Belly Button (2006), Op7 (2006), Circo Ipnotico (2006), Barrio Gotico (2006), Phantastica (Delysid Trio) (2007), Giardini Neri (2008), Shadowplay (2008), Sole Prismatico (2010), Phantasmata (in collaboration with Xname, 2010), Megatsunami (2011), Derelicta (2012), Dystopia (2014), Micropoint (2015), Syn (2016), Resilience (2017), Infinito incompleto (2018), and Ex (2020). He has also designed or collaborated on audiovisual installations such as Millepiani.swf (2003), V (2010), and Rotoscape (2011).
In 2020, he launched the live performance project Ife alongside percussionist Lorenzo D'Erasmo.

He taught Audiovisual Performance from 2005 to 2019 at NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) in Milan, and since 2018 at RUFA (Rome University of Fine Arts). With Otolab, he has organized and participated in courses, seminars, and workshops for the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, the Faculty of Design at the Politecnico di Milano, ISIA in Urbino, IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) in Milan, LABA in Brescia, the Academy of Fine Arts in Bergamo, the Muv Festival in Florence, the Imaginaria Film Festival in Bari, and CMMAS (Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras) in Morelia.
Antonio Cavadini (a.k.a Tonylight)
A designer by training, he has collaborated with the Otolab collective since 2004 as a musician and hardware builder of audio and video devices. Together with Peppolasagna, he developed and commercialized the Leploop analog synthesizers, Lumanoise, Multicassa, and the Psicoscopio optical-perceptual device. He has taught at NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) in Milan and organized numerous workshops on building analog electronic audio and video gear. He has performed and exhibited at various domestic and international festivals and fairs, and has directed MicroMilano_HQ—an international festival dedicated to Micromusic—since 2005.
